Dr. Ayşegül Demircioğlu

After graduating from Ankara University's Faculty of Agriculture in 1993, I worked as a research assistant for five years and completed my master's and doctoral studies. In 2000, I joined the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT). During my time there, I received extensive training in industrial property, delivered numerous training sessions, and developed educational materials and booklets. I contributed specifically to the drafting of the TÜRKPATENT Patent and Utility Model Law, the preparation and monitoring of Strategic Plans, the execution of the "Dissemination of Industrial Property Knowledge in Universities" project in cooperation with EPO, and the establishment of the Patent Academy in partnership with WIPO. I also participated in WIPO-IGC meetings on Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge, Folklore, and Intellectual Property. I prepared the Turkish version of the EPO's Patent Education Set (https://www.turkpatent.gov.tr/patent-egitim-seti) was made available to the public. I participated in numerous national and international meetings on industrial property topics, including those organized by WIPO and EPO, and contributed to projects carried out in cooperation with WIPO, EPO, and FAO. I was involved in establishing the Geographical Indications Platform (https://ci.turkpatent.gov.tr/) and managed the platform. In addition to the success stories featured on the platform, I developed the content for the "Training Set on the Registration of Geographical Indications in the EU" and the "Training Set on the Audit of GI-Registered Products." I served as Branch Manager of the Innovation and Promotion Department and then as Branch Manager of the Geographical Indications Department. After 23 years of service, I retired from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. I then spent approximately one year as Business Development Director at Endemigo A.Ş., the first and only online marketplace for geographically indicated products in the world. My greatest ambition is to leverage my years of expertise to help GI products achieve the recognition they deserve, ensure their sustainability, and contribute to raising awareness.

Nil Sızır Sakallıoğlu

After graduating from Gazi University Faculty of Law in 2010, I completed a German language program in Stuttgart. In 2013, I began my master's studies at Gazi University's Graduate School of Social Sciences in the Department of Commercial Law, completing my degree in 2019 with a thesis titled "Subjecting a Registered Trademark to Customs Procedures Without Authorization." Throughout and following my graduate studies, I have been actively practicing as an attorney specializing in intellectual and industrial property law. Since 2022, I have also been conducting project development and management activities on blockchain-based traceability systems through Heliodor Tech, a company I founded.

The Geopedi project, which we launched in 2024, has been supported by TÜBİTAK and has evolved into an active platform through field studies grounded in the principles of traceability and verifiability for geographical indications. Drawing on my approximately 13 years of expertise in intellectual and industrial property rights, I have had the opportunity to closely observe the challenges that geographical indications face in terms of auditing, traceability, and sustainability. With that in mind, I aim to bring together the solutions offered by emerging technologies under the Geopedi umbrella — with the goal of both raising awareness about geographical indications and making their economic value more visible.

Sibel Çelik Sözer

I am a communications strategist and I am passionate about this field. With over thirty years of professional experience, I work as a consultant. To pass my knowledge on to the next generation, I have taught "Advertising Practices" courses at universities and contributed to the curriculum development of Karatay University's Visual Design Department. I have specialized in communication management, communication strategies, content creation, stakeholder management, awareness campaigns, original brand concepts, corporate identity development, and — my focus in recent years — "behavior change-based communication strategies." I design sustainable, meaning-driven, and long-term value-creating brands for multi-stakeholder organizations across the public sector, private sector, and internationally funded projects. I combine the strategic communication expertise I gained through European Union and World Bank-supported projects with my ability to transform local values into compelling stories, bridge cultural heritage with contemporary brand identities, and develop communication models that forge deep connections with target audiences.

I approach communication not merely as a tool for visibility, but as a means of building trust and belonging. I craft integrated branding strategies that make the origin, effort, and authenticity of geographically indicated products visible, support local development, and create competitive strength at both national and international levels. I am among the few communication professionals in Turkey working in the field of industrial property. Since 2006, I have played an active role in industrial property awareness initiatives across national and international projects; I served as the project coordinator for the first digital public awareness campaign in this field at universities, and I am the first PR agency representative to have represented the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office abroad.
