Gürsu Deveci Pear
It is named after Lütfü Deveci, nicknamed ‘Deveci,’ who was the first to cultivate this variety. In 1963, he was recognized by the French as one of the 22 most influential figures in global pomology. He successfully produced a Deveci pear weighing 1.5 kilograms in Gürsu’s Ağaköy district. Production began to spread rapidly in the 1960s, and over time, it became one of Turkey’s most valuable pear varieties. Renowned for its large size, juiciness, and durability, it is a preferred choice in both domestic and export markets. Gürsu Deveci Pear was officially registered as a Geographical Indication in 2019.
